FS#73 - Add zlib support to kmod

It’s nice to be able to gzip modules to save space. Can –with-zlib please be added to kmod? I have it working well with my setup but it would be nice if this was mainlined.

Hello Alexander,
we try to keep near CRUX and this isn’t currently supported in 3.1. At this time this won’t be implemented but probably it will be supported in CRUX 3.2 (you can take a look to TODO32 and check that it’s noted to add compressed support to kmod (zlib/xz)).

This feature request should wait for the next release

Seems reasonable. I’ll look forward to the next release :)

Hey Alexandre,
currently we won’t implement this in 3.2 version, because of CRUX upstream decision:

CRUX upstream Flyspray comment:
Comment by Juergen Daubert (jue):
We decided not to add any compression to kmod right now. As we do not provide a distribution kernel the amount of modules is probably very low for the typical user and compressing them not a real win. As a general rule we try to keep the dependencies of all the low-level tools as minimal as possible.

We’ll follow upstream decisions.
